My friend Chris Mann and I started a writing and production team recently, managed by the amazing Susan Markheim at Frontline/Azoff.. We are proud to introduce our first collaboration, the first solo single of Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton. The song is called 'Sweet Vendetta', written by Melody, Chris and myself, and produced by myself and Chris. Stay tuned for future releases, too.

Goldenboy

Over the past month or so I got to work with a great new electro/rock band called Goldenboy. I originally came at it as a remix project (I think?!) but I ended up mixing the album, while doing some additional production tweaks. It's a new way of working for me, but I really enjoyed it.. they did 90% of the record on their own, sent me the tracks, and I did a remaining 'polish' (a little programming, changing some sounds, tweaking drums, etc) and the mix. Check out their website here. I think it came out really cool, I'm excited to see what they get up to in the next little while. I will post audio clips (and the proper cover art) when I am able to (after the album comes out).

General updates

OK, so it has been FOREVER since I've updated this blog (I wonder how many blogs out there have these exact words as their top post!). Anyway, despite what it might look like on my blog, it's been INSANELY busy around here. More so than ever in my life, actually. This is the biggest reason why there is nothing new on here at all.. So.. I will just put this stuff down in order that it comes to me.. I've started a new writing/production team with my friend Chris Mann; we have done a few songs so far that we are very excited about, one in particular is for pussycat dolls member Melody Thornton; stay tuned, this should be coming out shortly. We have also worked with our new friends Amiena, and Sonja James. Things in the Walter A camp have been very busy as well, and quite diverse. I did a radio remix of a Michael Bublé song, we have begun work with a New York artist named Oriane, and also filmed the first episode of a new TV show, on which I conducted Josh Groban's orchestra during a live concert. And during that, I mixed and did additional production on a Canadian electro-rock band's first album (they are called Goldenboy.. more on this later!) and worked on remixes for Rococode and Tegan and Sara. And I'm currently on the road on the Owl City / Mat Kearney tour, but finishing up a new Jodi King Christmas album (which we are very excited about!) and working with an incredible new artist, Lauren Carse. So.. there it is, in a nutshell.. More specifics to come soon.. Thanks!!

Diana Pops - For Bright Minds in Dark Corners - EP Out Today!

Hi all!! So FINALLY we are releasing something from Diana Pops, in this case a four song EP called "For Bright Minds in Dark Corners". This is one of my favourite projects to work on with one of my favourite artists (actually, we have started a "band" together.. but shhh.. that's a secret.. haha). Anyway, PLEASE check this out on iTunes at http://bit.ly/DianaPops_iTunes -- Thanks!!

Grammy Nomination and Other Updates

Well.. as December approaches it becomes time to wrap up projects for the holiday break, and this year is no exception.. And it's been a good year. Most significantly, Walter A, Kenny and myself worked on Kenny G's latest album "Heart And Soul", which was recently honored with a Grammy nomination in the Pop Instrumental Album category. I'm naturally very excited and thankful to the rest of the team for having me be a part -- I have programming, a writing, and add' production credit. We have nearly wrapped our part of the new Austin Brown record (google him!), have done two exciting songs with Savage Garden singer and writer Darren Hayes, and are nearing completion on the debut album for singer/songwriter Lauren Carse. I'm also VERY excited about a few projects that are in the works - expect some new material from pop/classical singer Chris Mann, plus (finally!!) a long-awaited EP from Diana Pops. All-in-all I'm very thankful to be here, and to be so busy! Thanks especially to Walter A and my new friends and collaborators. I know 2010 isn't really over yet but I already can't wait for what's to come ;-)

Diana Pops - Light My Cigarette

Diana Pops - Light My Cigarette
Diana Pops - Light My Cigarette

Check out Diana Pops' new song 'Light My Cigarette' on BandCamp. We did this song together in Nashville and Winnipeg.. Tyler Burkum played the guitar and Bryan Cook mixed. Check out what Diana has to say about the song below:

"Light My Cigarette" was written as a response. When faced with events in my life that could incur major change, my reflex action is to write a song to calm myself down. This is not so much to make me feel better, but more to paint a larger picture which reflects the feelings of the moment back at me to help me understand where I'm at.

This song was originally about the prospect of signing a record deal. When I was approached, I was more scared than excited. I'm a bit of a hermit, and the thought of being "on" all the time was a pretty daunting one. At the time there was so much unknown to me about what my lifestyle would look like should I be signed - but I was pretty sure it would entail more than drinking tea and playing piano late into the night; tucked away in my old house on the prairies.

I ended up recording "Light My Cigarette" two weeks after I wrote it, whilst I was in LA to meet with the label. The irony was not lost on me.
